Safe & Relaxing
Compared to the old days of rushing to get to a class on a cold, wet day after work, doing a regular Pilates class online in the comfort of your own home is easy, safe and relaxing. You can save so much time and set up your mat effortlessly in a quiet, comfortable space at lunchtime or after work. People join in the classes from a wide range of locations – the Lake District, Cambridge, London, Dublin and as far afield as Northern Italy.

Supportive
The 1hr classes are taught in an attentive, supportive and encouraging way via Zoom. While they are fun, they are also often challenging and the exercises are managed to your individual needs whatever your health issues, fitness and level of experience. The majority of classes have only up to 8 people in them so you can be clearly seen performing the moves on screen and can be instructed and corrected easily.
Find The Right Level For You
There are various levels of class for different abilities from beginners to the more advanced. Class plans vary each week making the lessons stimulating with the emphasis on better balance, improving flexibility and building body strength and tone.
To keep motivation and energy levels high, exercises are varied to work the whole body. We visit some of the exercises 3-4 times during a term to continually improve how we perform the moves and get the most out of them. There is then the opportunity to develop each move during subsequent terms.
If you would like to develop your Pilates practice between classes, or if you have any questions or concerns, you can get in touch at anytime for advice.

Online Pilates Classes
The different classes are there to help you learn the Pilates method at your own speed in an inclusive group setting with people at a similar level to you. The Pilates Method is a series of exercises that follow a natural progression for your body and, most importantly, the levels will help you develop your Pilates practice in a fun and safe way. Other exercises, often Qigong-based, are brought in for balance, and warm-up stretches and cool-down movements in the classes to add variety and interest.
Initial 1:1 FREE consultation
This session includes saying hello and taking details of any health conditions, muscle/joint issues and past injuries you may have. There is a full postural assessment, guidance on setting up for the online class and how to get the most from the classes with top tips on how to make positive changes in everyday life to help you too.
It’s important to discuss what you would like to get from the classes and any goals you would like to achieve, in order to find the best class for you. Starting anything new can feel daunting and this is an opportunity to take time to make you feel welcome.

Beginners
A number of beginners classes are run through the week over a 12 week term. This allows you to learn the 8 fundamental principles of Pilates such as body alignment, breathing and centring which apply to all of the Pilates exercises, whatever the level. Beginners can perform exercises gradually and progressively in a friendly, inclusive environment that will help solve back, joint and muscle issues leading to a pain free, flexible and strong body.
The mat programme allows every muscle group to be worked with attention paid to stabilising and mobilising muscles as the ability to undertake the exercises progress. The 8 Principles of Pilates applies throughout each of the exercises.

Intermediate to Advanced
These classes are for those people who have been coming along for a while, know the principles and have laid the foundations, and who want to build on their flexibility, mobility, balance and strength. The exercises/ movements are taken to the next level and are more challenging, often with more repeats and sometimes using resistance and load to build strength, stamina and endurance.
The intermediate and advanced exercises require a fair amount of core strength to perform properly and the rewards are considerable when mastered, helping not only in day to day life but for those participating in activities and sports who wish to improve and enhance performance.
Many class members have been coming along for more than 10 years and it’s super to see everyone each week in the online classes. A number of people who had left the classes when they’d moved away from Edinburgh have come back online and are enjoying the benefits again, some from as far away as Ireland and Italy.

Testimonials

Emma
The benefits of Pilates with Jane have been fantastic. A physiotherapist recommended I try Pilates to strengthen my core as I had regular back pain. Jane’s studio was round the corner from my office and I signed up for weekly classes.
I immediately liked Jane’s professional and friendly style of teaching. She is very experienced and knowledgeable, and has a lovely way of explaining the moves. After attending classes for a few weeks I found my back was both looser and stronger, and my whole body felt more supple and toned. As well as physical improvements, I found the Pilates breathing very grounding and therapeutic.
I did Pilates with Jane for ten years and was sorry to stop when I moved away from Edinburgh. During Covid I was delighted to learn that her classes were moving online, and I’m now delighted to be back on the mat! Thank you so much Jane for your expertise and support.

I really enjoy the Zoom Pilates classes. Jane is very friendly and a great teacher, explaining everything clearly before doing the exercises in a way that is easy to follow.
Sometimes we use a ball, an elastic band or a roller, making the classes very varied and never the same from one week to the next.
I really like working on all the muscles and I definitely feel that my posture and balance have improved since I started Pilates with Jane. I always feel better at the end of the class!
100% recommended!

Jane quickly adapted to Covid lockdown by offering her pilates classes using Zoom. The weekly classes are fun, challenging and varied and I can see that my strength, flexibility and balance have continued to improve. The only downside is that Jane isn’t able to move your limbs physically to the right place, but she offers lots of positive and constructive feedback throughout the lesson so that isn’t a disadvantage. The big upside, especially on a cold Edinburgh winter’s evening, is that you don’t have to travel miles into the centre of town for the lesson. Another advantage is that the class numbers aren’t restricted to only eight so if you have to miss a class you can usually catch up by joining another one. A surprising and entertaining feature of the classes is that people’s pets sometimes join them in the lesson!
